I'm a cultural anthropologist who has been living in Japan for eleven years. Because culture manifests itself in everything we do, it is only too easy to take for granted its prevalence and influence. With a cultural understanding, we can see beyond the buildings, things and "sites" and appreciate the beliefs, thoughts and feelings which brought them about and continue to shape "the Japanese Way".
